At Eagle High, there is a wide variety of electives that are offered to students. Whether they’re year or a semester long, each class brings a unique opportunity. Eagle High’s electives range from music classes, business classes, media classes and more. Some classes at Eagle High even offer certifications in the subject when taken to the highest level. 

Apart from regular electives, Eagle High also offers some Career and Technical Education programs (CTE courses) where students can earn entry-level employment skills in various fields. Some of these courses require travel to another West Ada school to participate infor participation, while others take place here. At Eagle High, some electives can be taken at the high school level, college level, AP level and CTE level. 

“College Spanish I through IV has been one of my favorite electives because Mrs. Pinder is a great teacher, and the class is super beneficial for college applications,” said junior Soleil Tapia. Spanish can be taken up to level five. Other languages offered include American Sign Language I through III, French I through IV, German I through III and Japanese I through III. The college credit opportunity varies between the classes and the teachers. 

“I enjoyed Photography 1 because I think it is a useful skill to know how to use a camera properly and I’ve enjoyed creating my portfolio,” Tapia said. Photography is one of the many digital video and media classes taught at Eagle High. It is offered to the third level with increasing difficulty. Other digital media classes include the graphic design pathway, the video technology pathway and broadcast technology. Media classes are important across communications, marketing and business classes and are helpful life skills. 

“I liked having sports and entertainment marketing because it was highly student run, and I gained a lot of useful experience,” said junior Rachel McLaren. The class assigns different school social media accounts to a group of students who are in charge of running the account. Students will gain real marketing experience by running the account, posting and making graphics. 

Here at Eagle High, there are many more electives to choose from. Some classes can connect skills learned in the course to another. Electives are a great way to explore different subjects and help many figure out what career path they would like to take.
