On Feb. 28, Eagle High School put on the performance of lifetime by having six different and talented bands perform for the school. Each band had their genre of music, and each person sang, drummed, strung and overall played their hearts out.
The concert was put on by the Japanese teacher Lane Ward. Every year, differing people with musical talent or just a love for the art come together and play.
The first band to play this year was The MP’s. They performed quite a few songs, one of which was “Master of Puppets” by Metallica. They truly added their touch to the music. The band is only comprised of two people, one drummer, sophomore Nathan Priegel and a singer/guitarist, junior Colin Miles.
The second band was The Candles. It was originally comprised of a drummer and a ukulele/singer, though at the last minute, the drummer couldn’t make it and singer, sophomore Emily McCallister, performed alone. She truly performed the night away with her finale song, a cover of “Hey Jude” by The Beatles. The audience raised their flashlights, and a sea of light flooded the stage.
The third band to play was Maiden Voyage, who included a drummer, Priegel, singers/guitarists seniors Jack Gochnour and Roman Walker and a bass player junior Casey Hulse.
The fourth band was Slightly Above Average Joes. This band had three musical talents those being bassist, sophomore Sawyer Pasquinelli, singer/guitarist, junior Noah White and drummer junior Lucas Hampton.
The fifth band was Catch 22. The band was comprised of a singer, Gochnour, guitarist Miles, bassist, White and drummer senior Parker Gleason. During their performance, they even graced the audience with an original song, that was written by Miles.
The sixth and final band was The Marshall Brothers. They performed with singer/guitarist sophomore Aiden Marshall, drummer sophomore Jack Marshall and bassist sophomore Carter Brown. As one may have noticed, the singer and drummer have quite a similar last name. The band performed a mix of well-known songs, as well as a few originals.
The Battle of the Bands was a competition and at the end there were two prizes to be won. The first was the audience’s choice (a silver record) and the second was by a selected seat of judge’s award (a golden record). In the end, The Marshall Brothers won the audience’s choice awards while Catch 22 won the judges choice award.
At the end of the night, prizes went out to the two bands and a celebration went underway with the winning bands cheering along with the audience. The night even closed out with an encore from The Marshall Brothers performing an original.
“I thought it was very fun, and I never realized some of the people in the bands could play like that or sing like that. It was exciting,” said senior Jacey Ulrich, who attended the concert.
This year’s Battle of the Bands was full of talent and truly set up quite the bigger battle for next year’s show.
