Aubrey Drake Graham, more widely known as Drake, was born on Oct. 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada. Drake is a music icon in today’s world. His music is known for blending various styles of music, including hip-hop, rap and R&B.
With multiple Grammy Awards, Billboard chart record and successful albums like “Scorpion” and “Nothing Was the Same,” Drake has solidified his place as one of the best artists in the world. On Feb. 14, 2025, Drake dropped his newest album called “$ome $exy $ongs” 4 U, which once again, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Drake makes history once again. However, his latest release is going down as one of his worst albums.
“I don’t like this album,” said junior Carter Ditlove, who is a big fan of Dake’s music. “It might be my least favorite album.”
While Drake’s newest album wasn’t his most successful, some of is songs are still finding some popularity. His songs “DIE TRYING” and “NOKIA” are currently trending as TikTok songs, both songs being top 15 streamed songs globally on Apple Music.
“I probably listen to ‘DIE TRYING’ every day. It might be my favorite songs right now,” junior Tate Wilder said. “However, it is the only song that I like in the album.”
A major critique of this album is the lyrical content. Many are describing it as repetitive and uninspired. Instead of offering a variety of lyrics about love, affections, relationships, sports references or more, a lot of the lyrics feel like filler material.
Recently, Drake and another famous artist, Kendrick Lamar, have had a lot of beef. Kendrick Lamar performed in the halftime show of the Super Bowl this year. He sang his famous song “Not Like us,” which is a song that disses Drake. With this halftime show that is seen by millions of people, Drake was publicly embarrassed. The halftime show solidified Lamar’s victory in this rap beef.
Overall, the last few months have not been Drake’s most successful months. He loses his rap beef and battle with Kendrick Lamar, and releases one of his worst albums yet. While Drake is still one of the greatest to do what he does, it seems that Drake has missed the mark on this album.
