Sources of Strength is a class and club at Eagle High that aims to help people with their mental health. The students in the club host all sorts of activities at Eagle High with the goal of helping the community and providing them with the resources needed to feel happy and supported. Students can get into the club by filling out an application form and turning it into the club’s advisor, teacher Sarah Richins
The students in Sources of Strength love everything about it, from their classmates to the events they help plan, host and volunteer at for the other students of Eagle High as well as the surrounding community.
“I love the environment in the classroom; everyone treats each other like family,” said sophomore Lily Towne, “I’ve known a lot of these people since my freshman year and I love getting to return to the class every year and see them again.”
Sources of Strength is a club that students can return to every year during their high school careers, many of the kids in it are very close since they’ve been in the club together for years.
“Sources of Strength is a class where students are unrestricted and can pretty much do anything they want pertaining to the class,” said sophomore Jack Marshall.
The club allows the students to run the show. The students are trusted to plan and direct all the outreaches that the club hosts. The independence the students have is one of the reasons why they love Sources of Strength so much.
“Nothing got done unless students started putting effort in, not only as individuals, but collaborating and knowing when to lead and when to help. I started taking charge of my life after that first quarter of [Sources of Strength] and I have been making much better life decisions and have gained so much more discipline after just learning how taking initiative can help,” said sophomore Nathan Fritsche.
Sources of Strength not only benefits the community, but it also benefits the students in the club because they learn so much from their experiences in it. They learn how to lead and gain the drive and vigor needed to not only make a difference in the community, but also in their own lives. Because of Sources of Strength, students are taught to lead with purpose and passion to inspire the community to take charge of their mental health and make a positive change for themselves and others.
