The Los Angeles, California fires have caused immense agony for residents, families and friends. Additionally, owners and pets in Los Angeles are facing a struggle to reunite. Over a thousand pets have been reported and found displaced. Humane societies are overwhelmed by the number of incoming pets arriving on top of the pets they already have.
According to Tracy Bringhurst on KTVB.com, the California fires have killed at least 28 people, destroyed thousands of homes and displaced over 100,000 people. These fires are a tragedy. California humane societies are running out of room to help reunite families with their lost pets. Fortunately, there are animal shelters in Idaho who are willing to do their part in helping California in their time of catastrophe. Three animal shelters in Idaho are volunteering to accept dogs and cats from Los Angeles humane societies. This helps California kennels to free up space for the displaced pets from the fire. These shelters are Idaho Humane Society in Boise, MCPAWS in McCall, and Mountain Humane in Hailey. The organization Dog is My Copilot, has been flying pets from the overcrowded California Humane Societies to the Idaho shelters.

According to dogcopilot.org, Dog is My Copilot has saved more than 36,000 pets, has over 500 volunteer hours, has more than 200 partners and has saved over 6,000 dogs and cats in 2024 with their two airplanes.
All these organizations have one goal, to unite displaced pets from the fires with their owners and help previously homeless animals find a home. There are high hopes that the animals who could not find a home in California may find their family in Idaho.
