Sophomore Emily McAllister was able to obtain a 4.0 GPA last semester. She tries her best in school every day and she has a few tips to share with other students who may be struggling.
“Usually, I get homework done on the same day that I get it,” McAllister said, “Getting homework done first leaves me more time to work on projects or bigger assignments.” The way McAllister manages her workload is by doing her schoolwork right away to help her avoid procrastination.
McAllister also spends her time doing various activities.
“I am in a choir and I play club softball in the fall. I also do shotput and discus for the track team,” McAllister said. Avoiding putting things off is how McAllister can excel in school and manage all of the activities she does outside of school.
“Finding a study method that works for you is super important. I love using Quizlet or setting timers for work time and rest time,” McAllister said. According to McAllister, sufficient study habits are the best way to succeed.
“It’s not the problem that gets easier, it’s that you become stronger,” McAllister said, “I live by this because we often think the problem is hard but as we keep working at it, we become better and stronger.” McAllister strongly believes that working on a problem helps a person to gain the skills they need over time to deal with the issue.
Managing her time, avoiding procrastination and finding study habits that work is the reason McAllister does so well in school while also enjoying her time doing so many extracurriculars. McAllister believes that if everyone can follow these methods, juggling the craziness of school and life will become so much easier.
