The Eagle High girls’ basketball team has started the 2024-2025 season off with impressive performances, showcasing their determination and hard work that they have put into making a statement this season. The regular season started in mid-November and goes through the whole of January, until the playoffs begin in February.
The team kicked off the season with a streak of nine consecutive wins, which was a result of all of the hard work that they put into the preseason. They are currently 11-2, and the rest of the season continues to look good for them moving forward.
“We work so hard and play so good as a team, and I am excited to see what we accomplish,” said junior Bella Thompson. Thompson is a point guard on the team.
The girls have put a lot of effort into cultivating a positive team spirit that will help them get through even the toughest of games. They work hard together and enjoy the memories that they have made during team bonding experiences, open plays, early morning practices, games and during tournaments.
“My favorite part about being on the team is all of the girls,” said senior Charlotte White, who is a post on the team. “I love how they’re like built-in best friends and we can be friends outside of basketball too.”
Having a team so close and with such good chemistry is rare in the high school world, and these girls are reaping the benefits of their close connections with each other. Outside of just having a memorable season, the friendships that are made during their time together can last a lifetime.
“Everyone is so nice and welcoming and just the best to be around,” Thompson said.
Head Coach Jeremy Munroe has also helped the girls with their success as he has over 20 years of basketball coaching experience. The girls have immense respect for him and look up to him, which further helps the team to have motivation to work hard for not only themselves, but for their team and coach. His leadership is instrumental in developing the teams strategy and helping their overall performance.
“I am feeling very optimistic for our season so far and what’s to come. I’m proud of our record and excited to see how we do the rest of the season,” White said.
The girls are currently ranked second in the district and third in the state, with only Owyhee High and Sugar-Salem High above them. They have very high hopes for the rest of the season and going into districts and state. Students at Eagle High have enjoyed watching their games and are excited to continue to cheer them on this season.
