Eagle High senior Madison Cerda has been key to this year’s Lady Mustangs rugby team. She has played rugby at Eagle High for all four years of high school and plans to keep playing in the future. The varsity team placed second overall in the state this year for the summer-fall season.
To say rugby is her passion would be an understatement. It involves many aspects of her life such as friends, sports and spirit. The team has close-knit friendships, which increase their efficiency on the field.
“We were really connected to one another inside and outside of rugby,” Cerda said. After many practices and team dinners, the girls formed a bond that helped them work together.
Outside of rugby, Cerda is an excellent student. Her favorite subject is sports medicine, where she learns to treat and prevent sports-related injuries. While playing rugby and more, grades can be difficult to balance. Cerda is a well-rounded student who gives her all.
“I’m thinking about Central Washington University,” Cerda said. She likes the fact that it’s close and she looks forward to playing rugby there, like she had at Eagle High and Rugby Idaho for the Team Idaho Alumni (TOA).
Cerda, along with two players on the varsity team, juniors Ella Elordi and Kanani Watts, had the opportunity of a lifetime. While playing for the state rugby team in Idaho they had a chance to meet with Olympic players and gain more experience in their sport.
Cerda proves that she has a bright future in rugby. With one more season to go in the spring, Eagle High anticipates greatness from the girls.
