From snowy slopes to sunny beaches, students at Eagle High have planned trips for this winter break. They have different destinations in mind to make the most of their time off. While some students’ families intend to incorporate quality time with each other in the comfort of their homes, others plan to spend time together in different ways. A wide variety of trips planned have spanned from ski trips to tropical getaways.
“[My family and I] look forward to going on ski trips to Tamarack together,” said junior Lucy Hansen.
Choosing to spend time in beautiful ski resorts during December means fluffy powder perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Other activities at resorts like Tamarack, Brundage in McCall and Bogus Basin in Boise include using the snow for building snowmen, forts and sledding.
“Because my family loves to ski, I’ll be going to Brundage to enjoy the snow with them,” said junior Soleil Tapia.
Some people intend to go out of the country on a tropical trip to soak up the sun. This can prove to be a great way to increase a person’s mood and reduce stress as the sun provides vitamin D in the colder months as well as releases endorphins.
Junior Chloe Franks is going to spend her time off in Costa Rica, and she is not the only one who has plans to go somewhere warm.
“I’m so excited for my trip because it means I get to spend some time in the sun on the beaches,” Franks said.
This excitement for warmer weather matches with other students’ plans at Eagle High.
“I am going on a cruise in central America this year with my family,” said junior Lila Weber enthusiastically.
Alternatively, a cruise can be a great way to travel to multiple destinations and relax while the planning for excursions, and meals come exclusively for the experience.
“I have plans to visit Fort Myers in Tampa, Florida,” said sophomore Levi Iverson.
Florida reaches highs of 73 degrees in December, which will be a change from Idaho’s highs of 40 degrees. Florida is known to host a wide variety of holiday traditions such as the Christmas Boat parade and Festival of trees in Orlando.
Many people prefer to spend Christmas in warm weather instead of in the cold. Taking a break in a tropical place can be appealing for this reason.
Going off to a tropical escape can be nice for winter months, creating a laid-back vibe for people celebrating Christmas. Staying at home or spending time skiing with snow and celebrating can prove to be fulfilling as well. One appeal to staying at home would be to celebrate the winter holidays more traditionally with cold weather and setting up festive decorations.
Whether it’s hitting the slopes, tanning on beaches or enjoying holiday traditions at home, winter break gives students time to rest and recharge from the first semester of school.
