The Eagle High marching band has an assortment of students from all different grade levels that play a variety of different instruments. Many stay in the class for all four years, taking time out of their days to practice and attend competitions just like any sport.
However, all the hard work paid off this year as the marching band was able to win the Treasure Valley Festival of Bands that was located at Bosie State University. The team won first place in best general effect, best color guard, best music and best percussion. The competition was divided into different categories based on the size of the bands performing. Eagle High was a small open, which called for them to be the first performers.
“Performing at the beginning was a huge disadvantage because judges tend to forget shows over the course of the day,” said senior Natalie Schultz.
Nevertheless, blood, sweat and tears were put into this performance. About 200 hours of practice were put in by the percussion and the winds rehearsed well over 180 without including class time. The team got together for night walks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with football game performances on Friday and early morning practices on Saturday.
“I’d say my favorite moment was hearing our school called as first place sweepstakes winners,” said junior Nathan Smith. “In that moment all five of us on the blue turf had so many nerves when we realized it could’ve been us in first for the second time in our high school careers.”
The students grew an incredibly close bond over the course of the year, making so many memories and learning skills that will last a lifetime.
