On Nov. 5, 2024, the former president of the United States, Donald J. Trump was reelected as the 47th president. He was initially elected to be the 45th president of the United States on Nov. 8, 2016. He is the first president since Grover Cleveland (who was the 22nd and 24th president) to be elected in nonconsecutive terms. In 2020, Trump lost the Presidential race to the current president, Joseph R. Biden Jr., who became the 46th president of the United States.
President-elect Trump won the 2024 presidential race against the current Vice President Kamala D. Harris. The race was tight in the seven swing states with both candidates fighting incredibly hard for the electoral votes from Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizonia and Nevada.
According to nytimes.com, “Ms. Harris failed to find new voters in three of the seven swing states.”
Overall, Trump won all of the seven swing states, meaning with just those states he won 93 electoral college votes. With a candidate needing 270 votes to win, this number gave Trump an edge that Harris, in the end, could not beat.
These results had not been released until 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2024. Results were rolling out all night, with many people staying up to see if Mrs. Harris would pull ahead. Though she did not, she could potentially run again in 2028.
As of Nov. 6, 2024, Vice President Harris conceded from the race after the results of Trump’s majority and electoral win. On Jan. 20, 2025, President Elect Trump will be sworn into office.
Since Trump’s election results, he has started naming picks for his cabinet.
According to cbsnews.com, “White House chief of staff: Susie Wiles, Secretary of state: Marco Rubio, Attorney general: Pam Bondi (after Matt Gaetz withdrew), Deputy attorney general: Todd Blanche, HHS secretary: Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, U.N. ambassador: Elise Stefanik, “Border czar”: Tom Homan, Defense secretary: Pete Hegseth.”
Though there are many more to come, these are some of the most notable and important to the function of the government.
