Step aside, “Sonic”! Shadow the Hedgehog is ready to make his big-screen debut, and it’s going to be far from a quiet entrance. This third installation into the “Sonic” live action movie franchise is going to take the blue blur to new box office heights.
Following the ragtag group of heroes from our last movie, the third movie starts with the introduction of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic’s evil counterpart, created by Doctor Eggman’s evil great grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Shaken by the cruelty of humanity, when Shadow is sent down to Earth, he is not here for any of the right reasons. He starts wrecking everything, and it’s up to Sonic and his allies to work together to subdue and ultimately rehabilitate Shadow.
The cast is full of returning faces like Jim Carrey, playing the demented and frayed doctor Ivo Robotnik aka Doctor Eggman, James Marsden playing Tom Wachowski and Idris Elba voicing the lovable red boxer, Knuckles the Echidna. Newcomers to the franchise include Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow and Alya Browne playing Maria Robotnik.
According to www.yahoo.com, “Characters like Big the Cat, Team Chaotix, Chaos, E-123 Omega, Silver and Blaze, Rouge, Amy, Cream, and Metal Sonic are all potential candidates to make an appearance in future Sonic movies, with varying levels of likelihood based on their popularity and ties to the Sonic franchise.”
Adding more development for the characters of this beloved and lucrative series is a no-brainer, but who makes the list and who ends up on the cutting room floor depends on what we see at the post credits scene teased by director Jeff Fowler.
This series has become a gold mine for stories. Knuckles even got his own series on Paramount+ after the second movie released, and with new additions, there’s even more possibly for spinoffs and additions to the growing cannon of the movies.
