Thanksgiving is a special holiday for many families, filled with spending time with loved ones and yummy food. The holiday is about giving thanks and appreciating the world around us.
At Eagle High, many students have some interesting traditions. Most families will eat turkey and share what they’re thankful for. But some students have some bigger celebrations.
“With my dad, we go down to Bear Lake and like get our family together and have dinner and hang out for like three days,” said sophomore Zane Sparks. “We usually go boating or go shooting.”
Three whole days of being with your family and participating in lively activities would be fun and different. And then, of course, there is the classic Thanksgiving food, such as turkey, stuffing and pie.
“I eat turkey and a whole bunch of desserts like Jello and peach pie,” Sparks said.
Sparks plans to continue these traditions when he’s older because he always has a great time every year.
Other traditions can consist of family time and playing games all day.
“Every year I have Thanksgiving with my dad’s side of the family, we always watch the Lion’s game, and each member of my family brings a different dish,” said sophomore Cole Jones. “My aunt brings really good rolls and me and my brother do competitions of who can eat more. And my family always makes the turkey.”
Traditions can be big, outgoing activities, whereas other traditions are more chill and relaxing.
“We play ‘Telestrations’ and a bunch of other games,” Jones said.
Thanksgiving is a time to share what everyone is grateful for and eat a buffet of food. This holiday was first created by the Pilgrims when they first reached North America. It was meant to celebrate their safe passage and memorialize their new land.
Although some traditions have changed a bit from when Thanksgiving first started, the holiday is an important time for celebration. Every family has different ways to celebrate, but each one is special in its own way. Whether it’s what there is to eat, where the holiday is spent or who it’s spent with, that is what makes these holiday traditions unique.
