Clutch performances shine in the World Series, championship at stake

As lights shine brightly over the diamond, the World Series has once again grabbed the attention of baseball fans across the nation. The 2024 World Series features an exciting matchup between the L.A. Dodgers and the New York Yankees, both teams have had remarkable seasons and have etched themselves as the two top teams in the World.

The Yankees with their powerhouse lineup featuring players like Jazz Chisolm Jr., Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and a formidable pitching staff, have shown fight through the playoffs earning their place in the championship series.

On the other side, the Dodgers bring their own star-studded lineup with veteran players

such as, “Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts making a difference,” according to nbcnews.com.

The Dodgers have been a force throughout the season in the National League. Some students are excited to catch up on and watch the World Series this year.

“Go Dodgers! This World Series is exciting. October baseball is the best time,” said junior Grayson Bruch.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took game one of the World Series, 6-3, on a walk-off grand- slam by Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the 10th.  This was the first walk-off grand-slam in the World Series history.

“The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th after Antony Volpe grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Jazz Chisolm. But in the bottom of the inning, Gavin Lux walked, Tommy Edman hit an infield single, and Mookie Betts was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Freeman’s heroics,” according to nbcnews.com.

The Dodgers also took game two of the series with fantastic pitching from their starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

“The Japanese right-hander threw 6.1 innings while allowing just one hit- a Juan Soto solo home run,” according to nbc.news.com.

The series has fathered some big moments and clutch plays. The Dodgers 2-0 start has left some people wondering if the Dodgers will complete a sweep.

“I think the Dodgers have it in the bag, a sweep would be incredible,” said senior Brady Ford.

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game five on Wednesday Oct. 30 to win the World Series four games to one. The Dodgers were trailing 5-0 before they scored five runs in the fifth inning- all of which came from the three fielding mistakes by the Yankees.

The 2024 World Series showcased the true drama and excitement of October baseball at the highest level. People have not only witnessed incredible athleticism but rich baseball tradition.
