Often times, reaching a GPA of 4.0 feels out of reach for many students. Junior Kristian Fusco reached even farther to an impressive weighted GPA of 4.5. Fusco is a dedicated junior at Eagle High. With an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighed GPA of 4.5, Fusco exemplifies the work ethic and study habits that many students aspire to have.
Currently, Fusco carries a very heavy workload in school. This rigorous load includes AP English, AP History, AP Calculus, AP Environmental Science and Ap Psychology. These classes demand significant time and effort both in the classroom and at home. With this being said, Fusco identifies some of his AP classes easier than others.
“AP History is challenging,” Fusco said. “AP calculus is definitely the hardest.”
A typical day for Fusco involves balancing academics and sports. During the week, Fusco does not have a lot of free time between school, baseball practices and study time.
“I get home from baseball at 6:00 p.m. Then, I eat dinner, then I study until 10:00 p.m. and then I go to bed and repeat,” Fusco said. “I don’t procrastinate; I study multiple days in advance.”
Not procrastinating and studying multiple days in advance, rather than just the night before an exam, is a key strategy that contributes to Fusco’s success. This approach allows him to thoroughly engage with his topics and materials. This also reduces the unneeded stress of trying to hurry and cram in all the knowledge needed with last-minute studies.
Fusco prefers a hands-on learning style. He does best in engaging activities and interactions rather than listening to long lectures. He likes group activities rather than individual work.
“I’m a visual learner, and I prefer activities that allow me to interact with other students,” Fusco said.
An influential teacher in Fusco’s academic journey is the Sports Medicine Teacher Nick Brunker. Fusco likes the way he teaches and engages the students. He notes Brunker’s teaching allows for him to easily follow along due to the techniques he uses, which are techniques that Fusco prefers. He enjoys the learning environment and process of Brunker’s classroom.
Teachers at Eagle High also recognize Fusco’s hard work and achievements in the classroom. His work ethic and commitment to getting good grades does not go unnoticed by his peers.
“Kristian is a good student that always get what needs to get done, done. He really cares about his grades,” said AP calculus teacher Kasey Krone.
Outside of school, Fusco spends time playing baseball for the high school team. He works hard to better himself athletically, as well as academically. He also has a great group of friends that always have a great time. Fusco has learned to balance his busy schedule to make sure he is getting plenty of social and physical activity outside of his studies.
For the future, Fusco looks forward to continuing to stand out academically. He looks forward to excelling through the rest of high school and to carry that momentum into a higher education. With a strong foundation of studying habits and a great work ethic, Fusco will be ready to succeed in the world after his time here at Eagle High.
