The Eagle Lightning Dance Team has 24 dancers, a head coach and two assistant coaches. They start their year off preparing for the season at sports games and then later in the year they compete at their competitions. Football season is such a fun time for the Eagle Hig dancers. They get to wow the crowd during halftime and in between quarters. This gives them performance practice for their upcoming dance season. They have learned three sideline dances so far this year that will be performed at the games. Two of these will be in the hip hop genre while the last is pom with pom poms.
“I look forward to football season every year so I can feel the school spirt,” junior Bria Davis said.
This is Davis’s third year on the team but her first year being a co-captain. She is so excited to help lead the team to success by bringing the girls together. This isn’t just a dance team it is a team of best friends. Most of the dancers have been dancing together since they were in elementary school and their friendships have been growing ever since. When the team is connected off the floor it helps with their dancing and brings them together on the floor.
“We are all so excited for this upcoming season. We are all working so hard to dominate the competition,” said junior Alexa Shannahan. The dancers have to wake up at 5:00 a.m every Monday and Wednesday to practice before school. The dancers work hard on their sidelines to get them ready to show to the school. They run all of their dances every practice and clean them to make them as perfect as possible for the student section. On the weekends, they work on their competition routines they recently learned. A normal practice on weekends ranges from six to nine hours. For their competition there are four categories they compete in which include military, kick, hip hop and dance. The dancers have learned their kick and hip-hop routine and look forward to learning the next two in the future.
