While lunch is important for students’ focus and development, it would be nice if it was more than the microwavable box food that the school seems to serve.
Many schools, both high schools and colleges, across the United States have food trucks on campus as another food option besides the boring everyday school lunch. Having these food trucks on campus does not only provide a way for students to get better and healthier lunches, but also can give an opportunity for students to learn business.
There are a few reasons why food trucks are a better option for school lunches instead of the traditional lunch students can buy. While the traditional school lunches might seem quicker and simpler, they are often not as healthy or as tasty as food from food trucks.
According to theatlantic.com, “Getting high-school students to embrace healthy eating is an age-old battle. And when it comes to lunch, many eschew their school cafeteria in favor of eating off-campus, where healthy choices don’t always abound.” Thankfully, there are some solutions to this problem.
According to mobile-cuisine.com, “Food trucks sell food that have more enhanced nutritious value.” The website also said that, “cafeterias at public schools and high schools, even those with the best intentions, must perennially contend with tight budgets on the one hand and pressure to offer healthful fare on the other. Soggy carrots and mystery meats just don’t cut it anymore.”
This means that students can get food that is much healthier for them by having food trucks on campus for lunch. Not only could schools give their students access to better food, but they could also make money from renting the space to food trucks.
Besides food trucks being able to offer better food and more money to schools and their students, they could also give students a unique opportunity to learn how to work in or run and start a food truck business. This would be an amazing opportunity to have students learn about marketing by spending money on food but still being able to make a profit. This would give real life experience in business.
Overall, food trucks would be a great addition to school lunch options because they would provide a healthier option than school cafeteria lunches, help the school make more money and help teach the students about business at the same time.
