Eagle High has been known to pack a punch when heading into a new season of any sport, and this year is no exception with volleyball. The girls started off the season with a varsity, junior varsity and sophomore win in the first game against Mountain View High.
The girls have been loving the new teams, as well as the new coaching staff, with new coaches for the varsity, JV, sophomore and freshman teams.
“The team feels great,” said junior Bailey Kluksdal. “We all get along really well and are continuing to get to know each other.”
The new varsity coach and Eagle High math teacher Ashley Holt came to Eagle High from Emmett High as their athletic director. Before that, she used to coach the volleyball team at Boise High. The new JV coach, Ashley Jones, is coming from Boise High’s volleyball team.
All teams have practices daily that are two hours long, either from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They have also been team bonding lunches and activities outside of school.
“I think that the team is meshing well together after the first couple games,” said junior Ellie Mcmanigal.
So far, the Eagle High Volleyball team is 8-1, loosing only one game to Owyhee High during a tournament in Idaho Falls, making them one of the top teams in the conference.
The 2024 season is looking bright for all the teams, which reflects the hard work the girls are putting into their practices. Hopefully, a successful start to the season makes it possible to go to the state championship.
