Founded last year, Knit and Crochet was established last year on Oct. 19, 2023 and meets every Thursday at lunch in teacher Amy Dutchover’s room, S110. The founders, president sophomore Kate Kuehn, vice president sophomore Kylee McKnight and secretary sophomore Secily Peterson have created an opportunity for students to gather to share their love of knitting and crocheting.
“It was actually Mr. Hartz’s idea. Kate was crocheting after a test and he goes ‘Are you in knitting club or something?’, and then after class, I went up to her and told her we should totally make it a club here,” McKnight said.
Through perseverance, the trio was able to make the club official with the help of Mrs. Dutchover.
“I like being able to share my hobbies with other people, because knitting and crocheting isn’t something that many do,” Kuehn said. “It’s fun to do it with people that I know, and I can get to know [people] who also do it.”
Right now, the members are making granny squares to combine together to make a blanket that will be given away to a local hospital. Attendees will get to combine all of their individual styles and designs to create one big bedspread for a good cause.
Students that want to join the club also don’t have to have any experience in knitting or crocheting since hooks, yarn, needles and other materials are provided. The cabinet members are also more than happy to teach anyone everything they know.
Knitting, crocheting or both are easy to learn hobbies that any student at Eagle High can start. It doesn’t take any special skill and it’s a unique way to make clothes and can be useful for anyone.
