This year’s Eagle High lacrosse teams are being hand-selected in tryouts. Eagle High’s student athletes from all grades will be fighting for a spot on either junior varsity or varsity.
Tryouts were Feb. 14 through Feb. 17 and included various drills to evaluate player’s skills. Wednesday evaluations were on the turf from 7:00-9:00p.m. Saturday scrimmages took place on the turf from 10:00-12:00p.m.
Some of the drill’s athletes will have to perform are the pacer test 20 yards there and back, pushup test, wall ball and stickwork. The last day was scrimmaging where they split into teams and go head-to-head.
Numerous students at Eagle High are excited to show off what they have been working toward all winter. Lots of dedicated players have been going to Off the Field, which is a sports facility where they can enhance their strength and agility.
“I am super excited to perform my skills at tryouts and I am interested to see which team I will fall on,” said Junior Colin Nixon prior to trying out.
Lacrosse is a unique sport that combines aspects of other sports. The players love the game and playing the game with their friends and teammates.
“In the short time I have played lacrosse, the community has been very open where I can express myself freely. I enjoy connecting and spending time with my peers at Eagle High while playing the sport I love,” said junior Jackson Turke.
The new classes moving up are eager to get on the field and show their talents. No matter if it’s reoccurring or new players selected on theses teams, it will be entertaining to watch them this upcoming season.
