Throughout the years of the annual NFL Super Bowl, many people have had theories of the NFL being scripted.

A scripted NFL season is a tough thing for many NFL fans to believe. How could the game that fans all know and love turn out to be scripted? It seems impossible. However, this question needs to be in serious consideration after a wild 2022-2023 NFL season.

On the day of Dec. 17, the Minnesota Vikings took on the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis. The Colts took a 33-0 halftime lead, and the Colts looked to secure a blowout win versus the Vikings. However, after some late miracle plays, the Vikings somehow completed a 33-point comeback to send the game to overtime. Vikings kicker Greg Joseph then kicked a 40-yard field goal to win the game 39-36.

On the night of Dec. 9, the Las Vegas Raiders took on the Los Angeles Rams in Los Angeles. The Raiders were favored to win the game heavily because the Rams’ quarterback Baker Mayfield had less than two days to be with the team since he was traded.

After being down 16-10, Mayfield got the ball back with 1:45 left and no timeouts. After a series of improbable events, Mayfield led the Rams to a magical comeback. There were countless missed holding calls that the Rams clearly committed but were not called, and many phantom penalties were called to give the Rams a new set of downs. The NFL needed Mayfield to complete the comeback for the script.

Former NFL player Adrian Foster spoke on a podcast for “Barstool Sports” and said the NFL was scripted. “We were really dedicated to it,” Foster said. “So, it was more so like that’s what practice was about — it was about practicing the script. This is what goes on, this is what we have to do.”

However, many other NFL players have come forward and instead joked about the NFL being scripted. One of these players is New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

“When they handed me the script for our season during camp I almost walked out the facility bra @ArianFoster,” Kamara said via Twitter on Feb. 1.

Fans do not know if the NFL is truly scripted. These accusations are solely based on speculations due to improbable events and magical comebacks.
