From Jan 21 to Feb. 2, “Hamilton” fans had the opportunity to see their favorite musical live at the Morrison Center. Directed by Thomas Kail, lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical orchestrations supervised by Alex Lacamoire, this performance was a fantastic experience to share with family and friends.
“Absolutely amazing. The actors, the music, the dancing, everything was incredible,” said junior Ally Godfrey. Her experience watching “Hamilton” live as a long-standing fan was everything she dreamed of.
“I had never seen ‘Hamilton’ live, so I was very excited and a little nervous, ‘Hamilton’ is a super challenging show to pull off, but they pulled it off wonderfully and it was just great,” Godfrey said.
This wasn’t the first time Thomas Kail directed a “Hamilton” musical. In 2020, he directed Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre starring the original Broadway cast. Although there wasn’t the original cast for “Hamilton” in Boise, the cast displayed their skills through dancing, singing and acting. They didn’t disappoint all the young faces who had come to see them.
“It was amazing, like the storytelling and stuff. It wasn’t hard to follow even though the lyrics were fast. It was so cool, and the performer’s voices are all amazing,” said junior Lucy Hansen.
Each cast member embodies their character as they sing the story of Alexander Hamilton and create baffling illusions with the stage set and dancing. The cast starred Blaine Alden Krauss as Hamilton, Kendyl Sayuri Yokoyama as Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, Deon’te Goodman as Aaron Burr, and Jisel Soleil Ayon as Angelica Schuyler. These actors gave their fullest and best performance throughout the night, and credit is due to all the cast members for giving their all for an amazing show.
The musical displays an iconic description of “Hamilton” while dazzling the crowd with Blankenbuehler’s choreography. His knowledge of choreography are shown as he’s given different genres of music to work with from hip-hop to jazz and funk. The cast’s abilities can’t be looked over, their hard work and commitment to learning and perfecting Blankenbuehler’s choreography can be seen from the audience.
The lyrics and music is what brings the whole musical together and Miranda gave just that. His lyrics are famous, and they have stuck from the very start. After he originally read Alexander Hamilton’s biography, he was inspired. This inspiration and Miranda’s will to share his new creation is what led to the production and popularity of Hamilton the musical. This, combined with Lacamoire’s impressive ear is what aided the captivation of the audience.
With all that’s being said, the famous faces that contributed and the cast members that gave their commitment shined through on stage. It can be confidently said that several students of Eagle High thoroughly enjoyed this performance and the opportunity to see this well-known production.
