There is no debate on Christmas being the season of joy and happiness, as families come together to celebrate the magical holiday. Christmas decorations, no doubt, can spice up a room and add a festive element to it, but when should Eagle High students put their decorations up?
“Christmas decorations should be put up on the day after Halloween,” said sophomore Hudson Grant. “Christmas is a season that needs more time to be celebrated.”
Christmas, according to Grant, is a whole season, so as much time as possible should be spent celebrating it. This means that he believes decorations for Christmas should go up the second Halloween is over so that the Christmas season can commence.
However, other Eagle High students offer a contrary view.
“Christmas decorations should be put up after Thanksgiving,” said sophomore Maddox O’Connor. “Thanksgiving is its own holiday so it should not be interrupted by Christmas.”
Although O’Connor is right in saying that Thanksgiving is also a holiday, what’s wrong with celebrating Thanksgiving with Christmas decorations up? Christmas decorations add a happy feeling to the atmosphere of a room. Having the Christmas tree up in the corner gives Thanksgiving dinner a cozy and joyful feeling.
“Christmas decorations should be put up before Christmas because Thanksgiving is just one day, and I really like Christmas,” said sophomore Emmery Headings.
Christmas is a holiday that is enjoyed by most everyone, and the feelings of anticipation and joy that come from Christmas are not offered in the same capacity as Thanksgiving. Having Christmas decor up after Thanksgiving also does not allow enough time to enjoy Christmas festivities and feelings of happiness.
Because of the feelings of joy and comfort Christmas allows, decorations should be put up right after Halloween is over. That way, everyone can experience the jolliness of Christmas for longer, rather than waiting to put up decorations after Thanksgiving. Besides, nothing can compare to the feeling of having all the family gathered around the Christmas tree celebrating all the Christmas festivities as early as possible.
