The release of the movie “Priscilla” has been hyped up for a long time. It’s a deep dive into the life and story of Priscilla Presley and her 1985 memoir titled, “Elvis and Me.” It goes into the forming of her relationship with Elvis Presley. This is one year after the release of the movie “Elvis.”
Both Elvis and Priscilla movies came out relatively close to each other which only begs the question, which one is the better movie?
“Elvis” is about the life of singer Elvis Presley, from when he grew up all the way to his final day on earth. “Elvis” was released in 2022 and was directed by Baz Luhrmann, and it is told through the viewpoint of Elvis’ producer and manager Colonel Tom Parker. This movie has had a many mixed reviews, though, because it never really digged deep into Elvis’ true life, according to critics.
According to rogerebert.com, “Elvis” certainly works as a jukebox, and it does deliver exactly what you’d expect from a Luhrmann movie. But it never gets close to Presley; it never deals with the knotty man inside the jumpsuit; it never grapples with the complications in his legacy. It’s overstuffed, bloated, and succumbs to trite biopic decisions.”
“Priscilla” is a more dramatic movie that talks about her love life with Elvis. It gets into the fine details from the memoir like when the couple first met to their first dates and even to coming back home to the states to have relationship somewhat normal to them. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the movie shows the dynamic feelings of love very present.
Students have reported with both positive and negative comments to say.
“I have seen both with my family, and the more enjoyable one for me was ‘Elvis’, but my mom really likes “Priscilla,” said junior Alexis Gonzales.
Both are great movies that are made by amazing directors, that have a lot of their own directing styles that raise the levels of suspense and emotions when watching them for the first time. These are some of the top movies that cover the life of the couple and have some of the best reviews and thoughts from other people. There is a great chance that these two movies will be a staple in biography style of movies for years to come.
